Episode 32: Balancing Mind and Body in Business – How Nervous System Regulation Supports Your Success with Lucy McGrath

In this episode of the This Mum Loves Tech Podcast, I’m joined by Lucy McGrath, a yoga teacher and coach helping women reconnect with their bodies, regulate their nervous systems, and create more balance in business and life.

Lucy’s story is an inspiring one, from 26 years working in education to running her own yoga and coaching business full-time. Along the way, she’s learned how deeply the mind and body are connected, and how regulating your nervous system can transform not just your wellbeing, but your business too.

From School Teacher to Yoga Teacher and Coach

Lucy shares how her career began in education, mentoring both teachers and students before moving to the U.S., where yoga became her sanctuary.
It was there she realised how disconnected she’d become from her own happiness, until one yoga class shifted everything.

When she returned to the UK, Lucy began teaching yoga alongside her day job. Over time, her classes grew, and her passion for nervous system regulation deepened. Eventually, she left teaching completely to build her yoga and coaching business full-time.

It was like coming home to myself. Yoga gave me the space to pause, to listen, and to realise what I actually wanted.

Now, she runs her own studio in Hiperton, teaches multiple classes each week, and collaborates with other holistic practitioners to create a space for healing and connection.

Understanding the Mind–Body Connection

Lucy explains how we can’t separate the mind and the body, they constantly influence each other.
When we’re stressed or overwhelmed, our nervous system moves into survival mode, affecting how we show up in our business.

We are our business. If our nervous system is in survival mode, we’ll either burn out or freeze, unable to make decisions or move forward.

She describes how different states of the nervous system, fight, flight, or freeze, require different approaches. Sometimes we need to move to release energy; other times, slowing down and resting helps the body reset.

This balance, she says, is what allows creativity and clarity to return, both essential for business owners managing multiple responsibilities.

Movement at Your Desk

You don’t have to roll out a yoga mat to benefit from Lucy’s techniques.

These small moments of movement help regulate your nervous system, reduce stress hormones, and bring focus back when you’re juggling a busy day.

Movement and breath are the bridge between the mind and the body,” Lucy says. “They tell your nervous system you’re safe, which allows you to rest and think clearly again.

Lucy’s Tech Journey

Like many of the ladies I meet, Lucy didn’t always feel confident with tech.
When she first started her business, she found tools like MailerLite overwhelming, until she learned about them through my training and realised how much simpler they could make things.

I used to open MailerLite and just stare at it thinking, ‘I have no idea where to start.’ It felt like a whole new language. But once Nicola showed me how it worked, it suddenly made sense. Now I’ve got my automations and forms set up, and it all just runs in the background.

Lucy shared how this shift completely changed how she runs her business.
With her tech tools now working for her, she’s gained more time for creativity, her yoga practice, and rest, a true example of mind–body balance in action.
