There’s been a lot of change in the email marketing world recently, especially throughout September 2025. Many of the main email marketing platforms have updated their plans and pricing, and it’s left a lot of business owners wondering: Should I switch?
In this solo episode of This Mum Loves Tech, I’m breaking down exactly what’s changed, especially MailerLite’s latest updates for 2025, the platform I recommend for beginners to email marketing. I’ll also share what to consider before making a move, so you don’t spend more time (and stress) than you need to.
Before You Switch Email Platforms: Think Time vs Money
If you’ve seen a big price jump or lost some features on your current email marketing plan, it’s natural to panic and start looking for alternatives.
But before you hit that “cancel” button, take a breath and ask yourself two questions:
1. How much time will switching really take?
Because while you might save a few pounds each month, you’ll likely spend hours rebuilding your signup forms, landing pages, automations, and email templates, not to mention learning a completely new system.
2. What extra features are you actually getting?
Switching platforms shouldn’t just be about saving money. It should also give you more features, things like better automations, reporting, or addition email services.
Prices will change in the future, so if you are moving just to save money now but get less for your money, you could regret it in a few months if the new platform’s prices go up.
For example, when MailChimp cut their free plan to just one-step automations, meaning one form, one email, and thats it. Moving to MailerLite, which offers multi-step automations and multiple signup forms on its free plan, was an obvious switch. Getting so much more from one platform than the other is a great reason to move email marketing providers.
What’s New in MailerLite in 2025
So, what’s changed with MailerLite?
The biggest update happened on 23rd September 2025, when they halved their free plan subscriber limit from 1,000 to 500.
While that’s disappointing, the good news is that none of the free features were cut.
You still get:
- Unlimited signup forms
- Unlimited subscriber groups
- Up to 100-step automations
- 10 landing pages
- The ability to sell one digital product (even on the free plan)
That means you can still set up everything you need to start building your list, testing your offers, and making your first sales without huge monthly expenses (you will need a professional email address for which there are free options available)
The New MailerLite Products Feature
This is a super exciting update for small business owners.
You can now sell digital products directly in MailerLite by connecting it with Stripe. That means you can create a checkout, add discount codes, and automatically tag customers or trigger automations once they buy.
So, if you’ve been thinking about testing a paid masterclass, digital guide, or mini course, this is a perfect way to do it.
On the free plan, you can sell one product to test the process, and if you upgrade, you’ll unlock more.
MailerLite’s Automation Updates
MailerLite has also made big improvements to the automation area:
- It’s much clearer when automations are active or paused.
- You have to pause before editing, which prevents mistakes.
- Adding steps is now simpler, with all options on the left-hand panel.
- You can easily move actions around to create cleaner, more logical flows.
These changes make MailerLite even more beginner-friendly, and putting automations together much easier.
Should you stay or switch your email marketing platform?
If your current platform has increased its prices, think carefully before you jump ship. Ask yourself:
- How much time will the move take?
- Are you switching because of frustration or because another platform truly offers more value?
Also, use this as a great time to clean your list. If subscribers haven’t opened your emails for six months or more, it’s time to let them go.
MailerLite even has a “win-back” automation you can set up to re-engage or automatically unsubscribe inactive contacts.
Email Platform vs All-in-One Systems
One of the biggest questions I’m hearing lately is whether to stick with a dedicated email platform or switch to an all-in-one system.
Dedicated platforms like MailerLite focus purely on email marketing, so they are often simpler and easier to navigate.
All-in-ones (like Funnel Sketchers) combine everything, email, websites, courses, checkouts, bookings, and even DMs into one tool.
All-in-one systems are brilliant if you know you already want to run courses or memberships in the future and want to keep everything in one place. However, becuase they can do so much, they can also be overwhelming if you’re still getting comfortable with the tech.
If you’re just starting out, I always recommend keeping it simple. Start with MailerLite, build your email list and your confidence with email marketing, and then if you can, always move to an all-in-one system once your business (and budget) is ready.
